Eucalyptus & Lemon Inhalation
Another Natural Cold Remedies
An easy way to relieve stuffiness and congestion is with 2 cups of boiling, steamy water and a large, fluffy towel. Add 4 drops each of eucalyptus and lemon essential oil into the bowl of water, cover your head and inhale slowly. Take it easy because this will be strong. You can expect it to clear your chest and get your eyes teary. Once again, it's strong but will relieve the pressure in your chest and sinuses!
Use this same formula in your humidifier, at night make it a mixture of eucalyptus and lavender for a more restful, night sleep.
Baking Soda & Essential Oil Bath Cakes
Last week I woke up with a stuffy chest and a scratchy throat. In my search for relief, I happened upon this tidbit of information in several places on the internet. I changed the essential oils recipes that I used and whipped some up! They're easy to make and quite effective!
Mix the above in a bowl until it will stick together. Place into muffin linings (I used silicone ones) and pack them as hard as you can.
*Note the broken Pampered Chef Cupcake Pan? It's a family joke-I just had to add it here!*
I baked these in a low setting oven-175 degrees for a couple of hours. I think you could leave them out overnight and they would harden up as well.
Then remove carefully and go take a nice warm bath. Let the essential oils do their job on your congestion as the baking soda relaxes and softens your skin!
I enjoyed them so much that I bagged some up for care packages for my girls! They can be a bit delicate so if they break-No Worries-You can still sprinkle them into your bath as another one of our natural cold remedies.
Ginger & Lemon Toddy :)
A simple mix of fresh ginger and a dash of rum, topped with a splash of lemon will relieve cold symptoms and help you to have a good, night's rest.
Lemon & Ginger are strong and effective as natural cold remedies. With the abundance of Vitamin C found in lemon juice to support the immune system-and the cough suppressant qualities of ginger-they are the perfect couple to employ in your fight against the common cold.

Attributes of Fresh Ginger Root
Ginger is an age old remedy found in ancient Chinese medicine. It cleans the system by stimulating perspiration and lowering body temperature.
Or you can make a Ginger & Lemon Tea
Stir the following together in a nice, big mug
cover to let it steep
relax and sip it slowly
***Add a dash of cinnamon to either recipe for additional antiseptic power***
Oregano Essential Oil in Natural Cold Remedies
Hippocrates, the father of medicine, used oregano as a cleansing agent as well as for digestive and respiratory support. High in antioxidant activity, oregano contains phenolic acids and flavonoids
If you're like me, you will look for natural cold remedies before hitting the stores for standard cold medicines. I look to the natural healing properties of essential oils. As we've learned above, Lemon & Eucalyptus, Ginger & Lemon, Orange & Clove are all effective essential oils for fighting those nasty cold germs. You can use any of these oils to rub onto the soles of your feet as that is a gateway for the oils to enter your body quickly and efficiently.
But now we can add to the list Oregano Oil...Oregano Oil is a tremendous aid in natural health remedies. Essential Oil of Oregano has anti-viral, antiseptic, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. Can we say once again...AMAZING!
So, as soon as the first symptoms of a cold show up, put a drop of a good, organic Oregano Oil on the sole of each foot.**
According to researcher Jean Valnet,M.D., an essential oil that is directly applied to the skin can pass into the bloodstream and diffuse throughout the tissues in 20 minutes or less [all the more reason why you want to know your essential oil is the purest.]
More recent studies have also documented the ability of essential oils to penetrate the stratum corneum (the upper layer of the skin) to reach the subdermal tissues and blood vessels beneath. (Huang et al., 1999; Ogiso et al., 1995.)
In fact, you can get really hard core and drink a drop of oregano oil every day to build up your immunity during the cold and flu season.
Tastes disgusting-Oh Yes!
A miracle worker in cleansing viruses, candida & bacteria-Um...Most Definitely!
I insist on organic essential oils as I know they are safe to ingest as well as applying anywhere, from my feet to my temples. Oregano oil is said to be unsafe for pregnant or nursing moms and do your own research before applying it to children.
**The essential oils I use, Doterra, recommends diluting with a carrier oil such as coconut oil or even olive oil before applying topically to avoid any skin reactions.
An Alternative to a Salt Water Gargle!
I know we've all gargled with salt water when we are fighting a sore throat. Next time try this...Add 2t of honey (preferably a local honey) to 1T of lemon juice with some warm water. Gargle.
Amazing Health Benefits of Cinnamon and Honey
Cinnamon & Honey
This is one of those natural cold remedies that are indulgent and will make you feel all warm & fuzzy.
Take 1T of warmed honey with 1/4t of cinnamon powder or 1 drop of organic cinnamon essential oil. Take it twice a day until symptoms are relieved.
The combination of honey & cinnamon have been known to relieve arthritis pain.

Now, I'm not a doctor and neither is my husband. Or, as a matter of fact, no one in my family is. I'm simply a mom who's done hours of research and experimentation with natural cold remedies on my family.
