My daughter constantly suffers from sore throats despite having her tonsils removed! So whenever she begins to feel the first tickle coming on I make her take some honey. Boil water, pour over a tablespoon (to heat) dip into honey and let it slide down your throat. It instantly begins to sooth and heal.

Prevention for winter colds
I always suffered from extremely bad colds and chest infections. A few years ago I started to use this preventive and natural receipe and haven't looked back.
Take a bulb of garlic rub it to remove outer papery outer skin and place in small ramkin dish. Pour olive oil ( or any other oil you prefer) maybe chilli oil over the garlic bulb and place in oven 180 degrees for about 15 mins. You will know when it is cooked if you prick it with a sharp knife and feel that flesh is soft.
The garlic becomes much less strong with the cooking process, but if you prefer it is also nice mashed into some potatoes (or pasta).
This receipe really does work and is much more potent than taking garlic pills every day. You only need to take it once a week or fortnightly as you are getting the full benefit of the garlic in concentrated doses.
